Yes, I’ve been back from vacation for a while now, and I have been BUSY!
The weather here in St. Louis has been INCREDIBLE! In the 70′s and 80′s with a soft breeze for over a week now. I take every opportunity I can to get outside and do a lot of the work that needs to be done – and then ENJOY IT!
Today it is raining gently, and tomorrow and Sunday we are supposed to get weather in the 60′s. Wow, sure doesn’t feel like summer to me – but I am certainly enjoying it!
In the last few weeks I feel like I have pulled every weed that has ever grown on the planet – out of my yard – and yes, there are still more. The up side is that my yard is really starting to look pretty. For the longest time I would walk out to my back yard and just think, “Ugh – look at all the work I have to do”, and since it wasn’t very pretty and the weather was not “inviting”, I’d usually walk back into the house and sit in front of the tv in my livingroom – which views the front yard (not the back). I have this (what can be) lovely back yard and I just don’t enjoy it the way I should or could.
Here is the walking path with all the weeds removed… wow it actually looks like a walking path (of course it is a little dark because it is raining today).

I cut back the day lilies and iris in the front bed, and boy, does it look nice! I was able to pull all the little weeds hiding under all the flopping leaves. On my “to do” list is to get compost for this garden and then mulch well before the winter hits. That way is will be all ready for next spring.

I also put in a small garden in my patio. Basically, I pulled up some bricks and outlined the area with some landscape timbers. I still need to put in a few plants – but I imagine that area will be for a few Hostas and then some colorful annuals.
Before – small pieces of landscape timber were wrapped around the tree.

Now – landscape timbers are full pieces and extend the original planting area. An area that once was just brick can now be planted with annuals and other pretty plants. The stump is used to set my laundry basket on when hanging my laundry to dry.
Well, my “to do” list seems to get longer and longer, and I hope to get much of it done this weekend if the weather is fairly dry. I’ll catch you all up on what I get done next week. Hopefully I’ll have a few “how to…” to share.
