How many people do you know that get excited about receiving their electric bill in the heat of summer? Well, I do! Each month it is a competition with myself and with hundreds of others around the world to decrease our carbon emission by a goal of 90%. That is the goal of the folks involved in Riot for Austerity (I have a link which will take you to the “rules of the game” – join us).
While I will consolidate all of August’s energy usage into one blog at the end of the month, I wanted to share that my electric usage this past month was 282 kWh. That’s:
- 26 kWh less than last month.
- 69.25% lower than the national average (divided evenly over 12 months).
- down 56.62% from my own usage 12 months ago.
I hung laundry out on the line again yesterday – I hadn’t done a load of whites since before leaving on vacation 2 weeks ago. With temps in the 90’s that felt like 102 degrees (and less than 50% humidity), items dried very quickly. So easy. I do the laundry first thing in the morning, and go out about lunch time and bring items in.
