OK, I’m not one for New Years’ Resolutions; I find them an exercise in futility that surely will result in a decreased sense of self-worth when I am unable to complete the wildly ambitious goals I set for myself.
I did set a goal for January 1st, and that was to get my house clean. In theory not an unsurmountable task – one I probably would be able to tackle in say, three hours if I knew a relative or long-lost friend was on their way to my house. But, given a week to achieve this goal I am having difficulties getting motivated to do more than a little bit here and there.
I have shredded 8+ inches of paper from my office and have cleared my desk, wiped it clean, and seemingly overnight more papers have sprouted from this once clean desk. Likewise I have removed huge amounts of paper (see shredding comment above) from the back work area, filed more items than I would like to admit and transported to other rooms, thrown, etc. until it was clear. I wiped it clean, and again, somehow, it has stacks on it already (albeit not as bad as a few days ago).
My studio is in dire need of organization… I am waiting for the dollar store to get its shoe box size plastic containers in on Saturday so I can organize the towering amount of “junk” that friends have given to me for use in my cultural artifact art. At the moment my studio is also acting as a winter cover for all the houseplants (and trees) that spend the spring, summer and fall on my patio or in the front of my house.
Since we are on the topic of plants, those of you with cats will appreciate the fact that cats just LOVE to snack on green stuff – and not all green stuff agrees with cats… And, speaking of carpet stains… well, let’s just say I have an aging dog and leave the imagination to fill in all the stain possibilities from that. Suffice it to say I feel the need to steam clean my carpet for the house to feel clean, but know that, given the number of times per day I “clean” the carpet, spending the time and money would be a complete waste.
So now that I have killed a few more minute without actually cleaning, I guess I should attempt to clean at least one thing! Wish me luck!!!
