The local weather says it feels like 13 degrees outside. It is still 50 degrees inside, and little in the way of solar heat coming in the windows because it is so gray and gloomy out. Whine, whine, whine.
A few days ago it got so cold I emailed a neighbor to see if I could come over and soak up some of her heat. I was COLD – and I wanted to be warm RIGHT THEN. Besides, I got to play with two dogs – and I really need dog time now that my baby is gone.
Yes, I still get calls from my mom and from good friends saying “It’s cold out tonight – really, it’s ok to turn up the heat!”
I must admit, it is fun to see the reaction on the faces of folks when I tell them that I keep the temp at 50 both day and night – and I work from home. Most tell me that they are freezing with their temp at 65 degrees – which, they remind me, is lower than many.
I have been making rice socks to put anywhere there might be a leak of cold air coming into the house. Basically, I told a few friends of mine (in passing) that all my socks had holes in them from Mandy chewing on them (I put them on her because she had allergies and was chewing on her paws – and with the socks I could put medication on her paws and she couldn’t lick it off). Anyway, a few weeks later I get a garbage bag full of used sports socks – evidently just a small selection of what they owned. So, now I am filling them with rice, tyeing the end, and using them to absorb the cold under doors and windows. I’m not really sure if I can cook the rice come spring-time… I guess I’ll have to wait and see.
Tonight is the fireplace and quilts… lots of wonderful hand-made quilts. And perhaps something to heat me from the inside 🙂
Have a good Friday and a great weekend!
