The Average American uses 100 gallons of water per day. A 90% reduction would be 10 gallons of water usage per day. I get my water bill every quarter. That makes a 90-day quarter 9,000 gallons (90 * 100) for the Average American.
February Bill: This bill was for 96 days, and listed my usage for the period as 6,750 gallons. There was about a month during which time I had a friend living with me. Assuming she was only here for only 21 days I get 117 individual usage days (96+21). So, I used 4,950 gallons less than the average American, or a reduction of 42.30%.
Now I have “skipped a flush” or two for this entire time, worn the same clothes for up to three days at a time (I don’t generally see people during the week,) so my laundry only gets done every few weeks, I shower ever two or three days instead of daily – and even then I turn the hot water handle less than 10 degrees so there is not a lot of water coming out. I run my dishwasher only once or twice a week. This past quarter has been Nov – Jan, so I haven’t watered any plants. So… where is all this water going? I’m not sure what else I can do to decrease my water usage any further.
