These are from the bills I received in March. I have taken the Average Annual American Household (AAAH) figures and divided by 12 for the numbers to beat.
The AAAH uses 917 units per month for electricity, and my March reading of 354 kwh was…
…down 61.40% (563 kwh) from the national average.
…down 44.29% (159 kwh) from my own usage 12 months ago.
…up 5 kwh from my own usage last month.
The AAAH uses 83.33 per month for household gas, and my March reading was 81.9 therms. This is down 1.72% from the national average, and (thankfully!) down 43.3 therms from the previous month.
The average person uses 41.67 gallons of gas per month for their car. For the month of March I purchased 23.80 gallons of gas (and used most of what I purchased.) That is a down 57.12% from the national average.
The Average American uses 100 gallons of water per day. I get my water bill every quarter. Based upon my last bill (received in February) I used 4,950 gallons less than the average American, or a reduction of 42.30% for the quarter.
The average American produces 1,642.5 pounds of trash per year, or 31.58 pounds per week. A 90% reduction of this would be 3.15 pounds per week. I’ll be honest, I never weigh my trash. With everything I recycle, etc. I’d be surprised if my weekly trash outlay is over 5 lbs (before cat litter).
ELECTRIC – The AAAH uses 917 units per month for electricity, and my usage for July-March was 3,226 kwh. This is…
…down 60.91%, or 5,027 kwh from the national average
…down 42.68%, or 1,331 kwh from my own usage during the same months the previous year.
HOUSEHOLD GAS – The AAAH uses 83.33 per month for household gas.
My usage for July-March was 386.6 therms. This is down 363.4 therms, or 48.45% from the national average. This puts me at an average monthly therm usage of 42.95.
The Average American (not household) uses 100 gallons of water per day. My usage for the 9 months (actually 277 days – 91+90+96) was 18,750 gallons, or 67.69 gallons per day. I had a house guest for almost a month, so if I take out her share my usage would be 62.91 gallons per day, or a reduction of 37.09%.
I did not keep track for the last few months, so I don’t have nine-month figure.
