What an incredible weekend!!! Saturday was beautiful and in the 60’s. The sun was shining, the birds were out in force, including a few hawks and an owl I never saw but heard on occasion. I pulled weeds and more ivy roots (long sleeves this time – only one small poison ivy spot on my hand.) My daffodils are blooming, and the 10,000 day lillies throughout my yard have poked through the soil and made claim to their spot of earth.
After many hours of working in the yard I decided to just sit and enjoy. This is a tough one for me – when I sit I see all that I need to do, and then feel the need to get up and do… sitting and enjoying is tougher. I rolled up my sleeves, put on shorts and let the sun hit my skin. I even let my cat outside to sun himself on a concrete walking slab under my bedroom window, and the dog laid down on the patio and took a brief nap as well. For a moment in time it felt perfect.
On Sunday the Arts Committee at my church (of which I chair) had an art exhibit opening. It was wonderful and so well attended! The place was packed! One member played background music to fit the theme of the show, two other members put together a feast in the form of a reception, and others transformed the small hall from a meeting place with tables and chairs, to an open space (with a small table and a few chairs) for the event. These events (about four per year) always stress me out a little, and when they are done I am always exhausted. I came home and took the dog out and sat outside again and just let the sun take hold again. I think I may have even taken a short nap. Another beautiful day (60’s again.)
So, the sun has arrived and stayed for a few days. Even though there is more rain expected later in the week, today I will be grateful for the sun… for all that it does for the trees, flowers and food-producing pants… and for me!
Today is a new day, a new beginning. The sun is shining again, and there is a lift in my spirits!
