A few days ago, Sharon over at Casaubon’s Book had a post The Competence Project that lead me to think about learning how to do more things for myself. She started with one of my favorite quotes from Robert Heinlein about the need for humans to be able to do all things required for survival.
Around my house, if something needs to be done, I either do it myself or find someone to show me how to do it. Sometimes I call on one of my friends with gifts I lack and learn from watching and working with them that I, indeed, can do this too.
My last post HOW TO… tie a quilt, was my way of sharing one piece of what I know with those who might find it of interest. I’ll try and add to this with other “How To’s”, and I’d love to see people share step-by-step of what they can do as well. I’ll answer any questions I can to help others who want to learn actually learn, and I’d hope that those who post how to do something would help answer questions for me or anyone else.
When I have looked on-line for how to do something, often important steps (for me at least) are left out. Especially with cooking, canning, etc. Really, what should it look like at each stage… what ingredients and/or tools do I need before I begin, how long will this take me? What problems may I run into and how do I avoid them?
So… are you in? What kind of skill can you share with me and with others on your blog? What would you like to learn how to do? Let’s share our talents with one-another.
